Explore Beautiful Bogachiel State Park

Bogachiel State Park is 127 acres of old-growth rainforest on the banks of the Bogachiel River. The park offers fishing, picnicking, hiking, biking, wildlife and more – and all less than a half hour’s drive from Manitou Lodge!

Washington’s Olympic Peninsula offers endless opportunities for exploring the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Bogachiel State Park is an excellent and nearby example of this, offering a variety of sights and activities to keep anyone happily busy.

The park lies along the Bogachiel River within the traditional lands of the Quileute Tribe. The park’s name means “muddy water” in the Quileute tongue. The heavily forested park is draped with mosses, carpeted with ferns, and often festooned with mushrooms. It’s also home to a wide range of wildlife.

Things To Do at Bogachiel State Park

The park is located near the northwest tip of the Hoh Rainforest and offers a variety of recreation.

Some of the most popular activities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and spotting wildlife. During the warmer months, many enjoy wading or floating in the river. Geocaching, metal detecting, and mushroom hunting are also popular pastimes.

Hiking along the park trail will provide numerous opportunities for bird watching or other wildlife spotting. The lush green mosses and ferns are equally photogenic so don’t forget your camera!

If you want to try your hand at fishing the river, you’ll need a license. Learn more about fishing regulations and purchase a license here.

Picnickers will find three tables in the upper day-use area. A kitchen shelter with electricity, lighting, a large grill, and nearby restroom is located in the lower day-use area. Restrooms at the park include hot water and showers. All amenities are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The park also offers a variety of camping options, from tent spaces to RV slots capable of accommodating RVs up to 40 feet in length.
